The PM-31 antenna unit is an X-band radar antenna.
The X band frequency ranges between 8GHz and 12GHz.
The X-band is more sensitive and can detect smaller objects, but is, however, affected by adverse weather conditions; therefore in adverse weather conditions the S-band radar antenna is used.
The marine radar system uses both X-band and S-band radar antennas together with refined signal processing techniques such as echo and anti-clutter functions to improve target detection, navigation efficiency and safety while sailing.
Signal data received from the Performance Monitor PM-31 is transmitted to the Transceiver Unit RTR-081 through a waveguide and then the signal is finally fed to the Processor unit RPU-013 for processing.
